The division of labour is the origin of the real economy, which in turn defines money, in terms of its nature, function and what it represents:

The nature of money is law; in the form of a social contract that grants:
  • unconditionally transferable purchasing rights (credit) on the economic surplus of the economic community, counterpartied by individual production obligations (debt)
The function of money is to facilitate specialised production and exchange across the three dimensions of time: past, present and future

Equitable money represents human work:
  • Past work in the form of the existing store of economic surplus
  • Present work in the transformation of existing economic surplus to:
  • Produce new goods/services within an expected timeframe, and/or
  • regenerate/augment the factors of production, including human capital
